Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about JuntoAI Breath, box breathing, and how we keep your data private.

What is box breathing and how does it work?

Box breathing is a four-phase technique: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds. This equal-ratio pattern activates your parasympathetic nervous system, lowers cortisol, and shifts your body from fight-or-flight to a calm, focused state. It was popularized by Navy SEAL commander Mark Divine and is used by elite performers worldwide.

Is box breathing scientifically proven to reduce stress?

Yes. A 2023 meta-analysis of 12 randomized controlled trials published in Scientific Reports found that breathwork interventions significantly reduce self-reported stress compared to controls. A Stanford University study (Balban et al., 2023) directly compared box breathing, cyclic sighing, and cyclic hyperventilation — all three improved mood and reduced physiological arousal, with breathwork outperforming mindfulness meditation. Separate systematic reviews confirm that slow-paced breathing improves heart rate variability (HRV), lowers blood pressure, and activates the parasympathetic nervous system. The physiological mechanisms — vagal activation, sympathetic down-regulation, and improved autonomic balance — are well-established in stress physiology literature. While most studies use general adult populations rather than executives specifically, the underlying biology is universal.

How does JuntoAI Breath measure my stress level?

JuntoAI Breath uses your phone's front camera and on-device AI to analyze facial micro-expressions and breathing patterns before and after your session. It calculates a Stress Index and Clarity Score, giving you objective proof that your state shifted. All processing happens entirely on your device. No images or video are ever stored or transmitted.

Is my data private? Where does my biometric data go?

Your data stays on your phone. Period. All facial and voice analysis runs 100% on-device using local AI models. No biometric data (no images, audio, or video) ever leaves your device or reaches our servers. We only store aggregated scores (like your Stress Index number) if you opt into session history. JuntoAI Breath is EU AI Act compliant and GDPR compliant. You can export or delete all data at any time.

Do I need a wearable or special hardware?

No. JuntoAI Breath works with just your Android phone. No smartwatch, no heart rate monitor, no special equipment. The AI uses your standard front-facing camera for facial analysis and your microphone for breath detection. That's it.

Is JuntoAI Breath free?

Yes, JuntoAI Breath is free during early access. All core features (box breathing timer, AI stress measurement, belt progression, and Meeting Prep Card) are available at no cost. No credit card required. We'll introduce optional premium features (advanced ratios, team dashboards) in the future, but the core breathing protocol will always be free.

Who are the founders?

JuntoAI Breath is built by the Schmidbergers — two founders with leadership backgrounds who have practiced box breathing daily since 2020. We use it before investor calls, leadership meetings, and high-stakes conversations. We built JuntoAI Breath because we wanted the tool we wished existed: something that fits in the 3-minute gap before a big call, proves the session worked, and respects our privacy. We're not wellness practitioners guessing what executives need. We're leaders who live this problem every week and built the solution for ourselves and our peers.

How is this different from Calm or Headspace?

Calm and Headspace are content libraries — guided meditations designed for general relaxation. JuntoAI Breath is a performance tool designed for one specific moment: the 3 minutes before a high-stakes call. The key differences: we measure your state change with real-time AI (they don't), we integrate with your calendar to prompt you before important meetings (they don't), sessions are 3 minutes not 10–20 (designed for back-to-back schedules), and all biometric processing stays on your device (they send data to the cloud). We answer the question no other app answers: "Am I actually ready for this call?"

Why does JuntoAI Breath process everything on-device instead of in the cloud?

Because your face and voice are biometric data — and biometric data doesn't belong on someone else's server. Cloud-based processing means your facial expressions and stress patterns could be breached, subpoenaed, or sold. On-device means the data never leaves your phone. There's nothing to breach because there's nothing stored remotely. This isn't just a privacy preference — it's a regulatory advantage. The EU AI Act and GDPR impose strict requirements on cloud-based biometric processing. By keeping everything on-device, we avoid those risks entirely. For executives who handle sensitive information, this architecture isn't optional — it's the only acceptable approach.
